party post } { drinks are on me

So the thing about wishing for home and accidentally winding up with your place of employment is that that employment can now transfer to Teleios. Cami's had Rousseau's for about six months now, and she's managed to change it into the place that Sophie and Jane Anne loved to something that's a little more something of Teleios, even if she kept a lot of the New Orleans flair. It's something she couldn't bring herself to take away, that memory of home, even if she's far, far away.
The upper floors have been modified into a small loft for her and Hope, something simple and comfortable that's currently loaded with baby toys because when you're being spoiled by your Aunt Cami, you can never have too many. She still doesn't know why Hope came with her when she was brought into Teleios, but she is going to do everything in her power to keep her safe until Klaus our Hayley get here. It's not much power, given the measly human of it all, but that's why she hires attractive, strapping supernatural gentlemen to do her dirty work for her.
Currently she's behind the bar, with Hope in her playpen that she worked in there, just so she can keep an eye on her. She's more than willing to pour you a drink, listen to your troubles and woes and make sure that you leave her bar with your mind feeling a little lighter. After all, there's nothing more dangerous than a bartender who also happens to be a psychologist. She'll get what you're worried about out of you sooner or later.

rose learned this early on, and she passed on that love to her little brother, who was a writer. (she promised she would edit his first novel. and here she is instead.) she was one of the middle children, in between the older, more outgoing of their siblings, and the quieter ones like rusty. despite not being the youngest, she was the most sheltered, and it was always a source of frustration. it is why she asserted her independence from an early age.
the world is different when you rely on all your other senses, and when your a dog, your sense of smell is that much more distinct. logan leads them into rousseaus and she is met with the strong smell of smoke and whiskey. it makes her sneeze a little, rubbing a paw over her face.
his instincts were correct, though. she shakes considerably less now that they're inside and the lighting is better. what a good mountain man. ]

he still doesn't know if this is puppy or shapeshifter.
he is trying to think of universal ways of communication most people recognize, but it's hard to say in a place like teleios. even within the world, different gestures have different meanings within cultures.]
I don't know if you understand me, but I want to get you some food and water.
no subject
rose is squinting and focusing very hard on the movement of his lips, and she is relieved to find she understands what he is trying to say to her. the puppy translates this relief into excitement, thus why there is tail wagging. she has a tail? wait, no, excitement. mention of food. puppy brain wants to focus.
to show that she does understand him, she crosses the table to sit beside an empty glass, to show that she is much thirstier than she is hungrier.
not that she will turn down food, apparently. if you please. ]

he keeps an eye on logan the most these days. logan was gone for a whole year, and while he's still logan, there's something about him that's also different, and he's feeling out those changes. connor is nursing a beer in hand, and he looks vaguely amused. ]
When Ethan said he wanted you to make friends, I don't think this is what he had in mind.
no subject
You really, really want something to drink, and you understand me so shapeshifter is likely.
[and it seemed like she was looking very hard at him as opposed to trying to listen when he was speaking. hrm. logan's quick to order some water though along with food. the water comes first and he pours that into a bowl for teh puppy. logan is thoughtful about it before he lifts his gaze up to his brother when he approaches, and there's a tiny relieved smile since connor can communicate with those who are shapeshifters when they're in their animal form.
it's useful even if logan doesn't think he's doing terrible all things considered.
wow, connor, logan is the older brother! he is the one that is supposed to be keeping an eye on you!]
I found the puppy out by the dumpster, but I think... they're a shapeshifter. They can understand me at least when they're looking at me.

it's not wine, but it will do. she sprints across the table toward logan and the bowl once more, pink lil tongue darting out to take sip after sip after sip after sip - she really was thirsty ok, which leads one to wonder how long she has been caught in this form, wandering around without a clue as to where.
she hasn't forgotten her manners, however.
rose will press her nose to the surface of logan's hand in thanks, before she resumes her sipping. ]

the hale siblings all each have a gift, aside from their werewoof properties. for connor, that's always been his eerie knack to connect with other living things - and it includes his ability to communicate with animals, to understand what they are thinking in an intuitive way. he looks thoughtful at logan's assessment.
logan, being the smart cookie he is, wasn't on the wrong track.
connor's finger reaches out to stroke the puppy's fur back and forth, and after a while, he settles back on the booth. ]
That's because they are a shapeshifter, and they are deaf. [ he guzzles down some of that good ol' beer before he points to logan with it. ] Might want to make sure we find her hearing aid before the night is over.
no subject
he smiles softly when the puppy touches her nose to his hand and then sips so daintily. everything this puppy does is completely adorable. he lifts his hand up to gently pet her in response. even if it is a shapeshifter, logan knows that in that form... they like pets. he likes pets as a wolf. this is--
this line of conversation will stop. ahem.]
I thought that was a possibility. Definitely going to look for that. Those are expensive, and I don't know that Teleios would readily have them available.
[he lifts up his hands to sign to the puppy. it's very rusty signing as he hasn't signed to anyone in... years.]
Hi, my name is Logan. [he says his name without a sign for it and then spells it out too.] We'll find your hearing aid after you drink and eat. It'll be okay
no subject
rose isn't thinking about the difference at the moment, and it's clear she's not 100% with her human brain, or she'd have been a lot more worried about her hearing aid to begin with. it was expensive, and her parents couldn't afford it to start with. she felt terrible when they got it for her in spite of that, and she's taken very good care of it.
oh!
oh! he can sign. this is exciting. rose had yet to meet someone in teleios who could sign. she sits on her hind legs and attentively looks at his hands. of course, this means she wants to sign back with her hands, except her hands are paws and she can't quite do that, so she just turns around in place and then sits back down with a sound that suspiciously sounds like blowing raspberries.
she presses her nose to his hand again, and then continues sipping. at least the other one will translate. the non mountain man one. ]

this is the strangest conversation connor has ever partaken in, but he'll have to admit he's mildly amused by the puppy's thoughts. he hadn't put it in quite those terms, but the year logan was off in some other world did bring about some changes. ] He does kind of look like a mountain man these days, doesn't he?
[ she gets pets from connor, too. so many pets. the puppy is in puppy heaven. ]
Her name is Rose, and she says thank you.
no subject
[it's the first time logan has heard such a description for himself too rjel;a but he can't say it is not very accurate, ahem. he lifts his eyebrows in amusement before he smirks sideways at his brother and then waits until the puppy is looking at him again to sign/say.]
It's nice to meet you, Rose. I'm Logan Hale, and this is my brother, Connor.
[there are a lot of them, rose. the waiter has brought over some food (a sandwich with meat and fries, and he takes the meat out to set it on the table for her to eat.
:')]
no subject
just like logan is expecting, she sits back down and looks up at him, focusing on his hands - it would look to the casual observer that he's teaching her how to sit lmao. she is about to look connor's way, if only in acknowledgement that she has understood, and it is nice to meet them both, when the food is set on the table.
food.
meat.
rose isn't even crazy about meat, on regular day, she eats fish for protein most of the time, but god, if her mouth isn't watering right now. she launches into the meat, the sauce sticking all over her mouth as she does. thankfully, the puppy is far too excited about the meat itself for rose to be mortified. ]

[ words he never thought he'd say in reference to logan, but life does have a way of surprising you sometimes. connor tosses a fry into his mouth, his tone of voice and his expression one of quiet amusement - some of which is most definitely at logan's expense, but that's what brothers are for. he's still logan at his core, and connor doesn't doubt that at all, but there is something scruffier and mountain man-y about him lately. ]
You never did get to tell me about this whole other world you were in. I'm guessing there were mountains.
[ the narration has a hard time explaining the deadpanned delivery, but trust that it is beautiful. ]
no subject
it's friggin adorable, okay?
he sets another piece of meat in front of her seeing how the sauce sticks to her face. he'll wipe it off once she's finished eating, but he looks over at connor when he responds at the very deadpan delivery.
logan lifts his eyebrows.]
There were a lot of mountains. It was a lot of people from different worlds who landed in a mountainous village. We did mountain-y things like cutting down trees and building things.
They tattoo everyone that comes through to keep track of them. [he gestures to the tattoo on his neck which is yes. also obvious, ahem.]
no subject
the puppy seems so intently all about the meat right now. she has quickly devoured what logan first placed in front of her, and she attacks the second piece of meat just as eagerly, with little regard to the fact she has an audience. she bites and chews and then licks what remains around her mouth. it's all very ungracious, tbh. ]
Because that's not concerning at all.
[ connor lifts his own eyebrows. logan is sitting across from him in one piece, and connor should be - and is - thankful for that. but he can't help wondering what logan went through while he was gone. ]
Who is 'they'?
no subject
logan lifts his gaze up from the puppy to his brother, shaking his head.]
It wasn't terrible. Well, there were no books. That was pretty terrible.
[it was actually torture to him at first, but uk. he is probably being dramatic but he was pretty used to a great many comforts in the world before he fell through and learned how to live without them.]
Those in charge. It read pretty suspicious to me too, but... You realize I'm the older brother, right? [he is used to doing the worrying about the younger ones, okay? not the other way around >>]
no subject
the puppy looks a bit sheepish at losing decorum like that, its ears tucked down slightly once more. of course, that's all lost in the face of the realization logan was in a land with no books. yeah, she caught that, alright. alarmed, the ears go right back up. ]
You realize that I'm not the one who spent a whole year on a mountain with a tattoo on their neck, right?
[ SORRY IF THAT IS WORRYING, LOGAN. ]
no subject
he looks over at his brother.]
You say that like mountains and tattoos are horrible things...
[wow, is that logan deflecting? maybe a little bit. look he's used to being... the oldest one, and it has always meant taking care of everyone else. he doesn't know what to do with a role reversal even if his brothers obviously always have cared about him and looked after him too.]
no subject
that meal was exhausting, apparently. what a hard life. ]
I didn't say they're necessarily horrible, but why would anyone need to brand your neck like you're a cow?
[ seriously, it's fishy. and logan's deflection more so. :|a ]
no subject
he looks up over at his brother, shaking his head.]
Like I said, they wanted to keep track of us. It was their way of trying to control and understand the Rifts and what came through them.
[he lifts the puppy up into his arms again where she is likely still drowsy.] Think she's falling asleep...
no subject
[ considering she's all but snoring quietly as her face smushes partially into logan's palm. he gets that he isn't going to get more out of logan - at least not tonight. the way he lifts the puppy into his arms gives him the perfect opportunity to deal with that more pressing issue. and connor gets it, but he isn't going to let it go easily, either. ]
Tell you what. You find the puppy a nice warm place to sleep, I'll take care of finding the hearing aid.
[ along with what will likely be her clothes. ]
no subject
Alright, I can do that. If you have trouble finding the hearing aid, let me know.
[and he'll gladly help, but for now, he's going to take this puppy home with him, make up a tiny bed for her.
shh, it's adorable.]
