In the height of summer, Daneca is in charge of planning the annual movie in the park. The set up is simple, all she has to do is find the supplies and figure out what movie to show. Which is why in late August, the sun starts to set. (It doesn't really "set", but Daneca calls in a favor with a certain god of the sun to dim the bright summer light to something better.

Something with ambiance.)

Stalls of food and merchants renting and selling blankets ring the park by the lake, lit by fairy lights and Chinese lanterns, and the screen is nestled beneath a pair of looming oak trees that offer a bit more shade for the movie. It's a double feature this year -- The World is Not Enough and Casino Royale. Someone couldn't decide between Pierce Brosnan's James Bond and Daniel Craig's James Bond and someone -- cough, Elena -- offered the brilliant compromise of "why not both?"

Both. Both is good.

So tuck in. Enjoy yourselves! Enjoy shirtless Daniel Craig, you know you want to.

While some people may be snug on blankets in the grass to watch the movie, one Jane Rooney is tucked away on a small boat on the lake, swaying next to the dock. The little sailboat is decked out in some twinkle lights liberated from last year's Christmas festivities and there is a sign on the dock scrawled in her messy handwriting that reads:

1/2 HOUR SAILS: $15
1 HOUR SAILS: $30

The owner of said boat is lounging on the boat's deck sipping soda and eating a plate of cookies all by herself while she watches the movie across the park even though she can't really hear the words, so you're welcome to join her. Well, that is if she's not actually out on the lake with a customer. You're definitely free to be one of her customers.

Where ever there is socialization, Ethan Hale is likely to be. He isn't the type who can sit still for the entirety of a movie. Let alone, two movies. He's too restless for it even when the movie happens to be fantastic. It's how he ends up out by the dock, walking the length of it when he sees the note about providing rides across the lake.

A charming smile crosses his face.

"Now that's a brilliant idea. You've got a beautiful sailboat here."

It takes Jane a second to answer, in the middle of huge bite of cookie, but she chews quickly and swallows, wiping the crumbs off her mouth with the back of her hand like a mannerless heathen. She was raised by men, not a single feminine touch in her life until late in her teens.

"I know, don't I?" HA! Modesty and humility is not her style, but Jane is proud of her little idea. Finally setting her gaze on Ethan (w o w), she pushes herself up to lean against the railing of her boat.

It's name, in handpainted fancy blue letters, is "Seaductress" because Jane is both artistic and ridiculous. She pats the side of it fondly. "Thanks! I did a favor for Poseidon and he gave it to me for my birthday. I know it was just my favor, but it felt like a present, you know?"

Hilariously, Ethan was raised by his mother, not a single masculine touch in his life until far later in his years.

Ethan sends her a wide smile at her response. In his opinion, modesty and humility are overrated. He watches her from where he stands in front of the boat as she leans up against the railing of it. His gaze still drifts over it. The light, amused smile tugs across his face comes when he reads the letters written on the boat when she pats the side of it.

"Excellent timing at least. Might as well think of it as a present and from Poseidon of all the agents..." He steps up to her with the little smirk on his face, lifting his hand up to hover it over the Seaductress as he lifts an eyebrow in her direction. "May I touch your boat?"

Well, hello sailor.

"You may definitely touch my boat." A beat. "Hell, you can climb aboard if you want."

Yes, that sounds like a come on and yes, she means it as a come on. Subtlety is not Jane's strong suit, it never has been and there is little doubt it ever will become a strong suit.

Ethan sends her a slow smile at the come on, because he recognizes it as such. Subtlety is highly overrated, and she's frankly gorgeous. He walks up on to the boat without a moment's hesitation. He runs his fingertips over the edge of the boat before he looks over her way.

"I know absolutely nothing about boats, but she seems amazing," he says, sinking down on it across from her as he rests his chin on his hand while he looks at her. The tiny smile on his face widens. His gaze lingers on her face before he stretches his hand out toward her to shake it. "I'm Ethan Hale by the way."

Max is headed on his way back in from fishing for the day when he notices that it's gotten darker, which is just ... weird for Summer. He glances over to the field where the movies are happening and he frowns, confused.

Max is ... generally out of touch with stuff like this. "What's happening over there?"

"James Bond movie double feature." Jane reclines back against the railing, fanning herself with a pink plastic fan. It's still hot as hell.

She squints up at him. "Dude you should shower first. You smell like fish. Like... so bad. Do you wanna hit the head?" She gestures to the small door at the other side of the boat where the galley and bunks and bathroom are located.

Max pauses for a moment, making a face at her before lifting one arm and ... "Oh, Jesus." He shakes his head before taking a step back so he's not in her space. "Yeah, I'll be right back."
